Frequently Asked Questions

What Makes Canine Estates Different?

We are dedicated to saving the lives of abandoned, abused and injured dogs primarily from high kill shelters. We do not shy away from taking the medically needy or older dogs that need specialized care. If these dogs cannot be adopted, we are committed to providing them care and love to allow them to live happy and comfortable lives at our rescue.

What Can I Expect From A Canine Estates Dog?

Our dogs receive medical care and love while they are in our care. These dogs come from a variety of backgrounds and we cannot say for sure if they are housebroken or even how they may respond to other animals or people.

We will give you all information available about how a dog has behaved in our care. It is important to note, though, that a dog may act very differently in your home than he or she did at the rescue. For this reason, we can work with you to set up meet and greets and/or sleepovers to give you a better idea of how a dog might fit in your environement.

Of course, it takes rescue dogs some time to decompress and get comfortable in a new environment. It may take several weeks or even months to fully get to know a new dog.

What Is Included In Your Adoption Fee?

Our adoption fee is tax deductible. This non-refundable donation helps defray the costs of veterinary care given to your dog prior to adoption. This care includes, but may not be limited to, all vaccinations, heartworm testing and prevention medication, flea prevention, fecal testing and worming if necessary and surgical procedure for spay/neuter.

Complete medicals have been performed on all fur kids, including spay and neuter, and all records are provided at the time of adoption. Adoption fees can be paid by a bank or personal check or cash.

In order to support the correct care of your new fur kid, many of the following items are provided at the time of adoption:

How Does The Adoption Process Work?

If you are interested in one of our available dogs or if you want to get pre-approved for a future adoption, please fill out an application. Your application will be reviewed by one of our volunteers. If appropriate, we will contact you to arrange a meet and greet and/or a sleepover to determine if a particular dog is a good match for you and your home. We are committed to finding the best possible match for each of our dogs. Please answer the application questions as thoroughly as possible to help us in this process.

Can Hospice Dogs Be Adopted?

Hospice dogs generally have robust medical needs. With the aid of our generous supporters, we are committed to providing them the care and love they need to live happy and comfortable lives in our rescue.

If you are interested in learning more about our hospice dogs and how you can help us help them, please call us at (727) 412-0558 or email us at director@canineestates.com to discuss.

Out-of-state adoptions are acceptable, but we do not ship our companion dogs. Adopting families must come to Canine Estates to complete the adoption. Sorry, no exceptions.

The information you provide on our application/contract will help us determine the best possible match for you, as well as for the dog. Please answer all of the questions honestly, as there are no right or wrong answers. Not all dogs require fenced yards and some may do well in apartments.

However, if your current or previous pets are not altered or have not been kept up-to-date on shots, heartworm prevention and well-care, your application will be discarded.

Adoption donations are, without exception, NON-REFUNDABLE. You are not buying a dog, you’re making a donation.

We rely on the generosity of others to care for our adoptable dogs and our hospice dogs.

Cash donations, no matter how small, go a long way toward supporting our mission. Donations can be made online via Petstablished or PayPal, or by mailing a check to Canine Estates, Inc., 41 Pinewood Circle, Safety Harbor, FL 34695.

You can also make a contribution directly to our veterinary expenses by calling Westlake Animal Hospital at 727-938-1575.

You can also support us by shopping our wish lists.
